Who are we?
The South Burnett Pantry was born out of a concern for vulnerable families struggling with cost of living expenses. Concened community members started the South Burnett Pantry with short term personal loans that got things going. Those members also loaned fridges and freezers, other equipment, vehicles, trailers and most importantly time and energy to ensure the enterprise could start helping the wider community. Members of the South Burnett Pantry have a heart to support others in need, lend a listening ear and help people connect with appropriate health and welfare agencies.
What do we do?
The South Burnett Pantry provides a hamper of food that includes a range of fresh produce, diary products, meats, tinned and packaged foods, toiletries, household items, baby items and more, to help supplement food costs to families. The weekly handling fee of $40.00 funds the hamper contents and provides items that would normally be 3-4 times higher in cost in a shop/supermarket. We enjoy seeing people come into the Pantry on Fridays and there is a chance to sit and relax, make a new friend or talk to a supportive person around the free lunch.
Our health and welfare connections include support from Christian Life Centre Church, Centacare, Community Health, Salvation Army, Graham House, CTC Services, Uniting Care Family services, St. Vincent de Paul Society, Jobmatch.
